Abstract

CUARTAS-RESTREPO, Juan Manuel. Digital Humanities: Let them be!. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2017, n.72, pp.65-78. ISSN 0120-3916.

This reflection paper aims to confront the consideration that "the humanities are on the edge" and that "they hang from a thread." For this purpose, a comparison is made with the so-called "digital humanities," which refer to the following: a non-unified "field," whose methods of relating to technological information gave way to cyberculture; multimedia configurations and digital tools that have displaced printed documents and have helped to disseminate knowledge; redefinition of newspapers and journals in digita formats, and their acceptance as transmedia tools hosted on websites; experimentation within different disciplines, including humanities, with digital technology services. "Digital humanities" are scrutinized here, seeking to clarify their modus operandi and raison d'être; this does not mean that they move forward without obstacles towards a better understanding and expression of the human condition.

Keywords : Digital humanities; cyberculture; humanities on the edge; information technologies.
