Violence against women is a social and public health-related problem that takes place in every country. The main purpose of this research is to analyze the distorted beliefs about gender roles and intimate partner violence against women in a sample of preservice teachers. The sample consisted of 443 students (71.6 % females and 28.4 % males) from Colombian universities. The results show statistically significant differences between men and women in the acceptance of distorted beliefs, with a higher rate of agreement among men. The distorted beliefs show a positive correlation with ambivalent sexism and myths of romantic love. Therefore, it is essential to provide gender-equality-based training for teachers to prevent violence against women and promote equality.
