Abstract

OVIEDO-CACERES, María Del Pilar  and  HERNANDEZ-QUIRAMA, Andrea. University and disability: "the basic strategy is perseverance". Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2020, n.79, pp.395-422.  Epub Dec 21, 2020. ISSN 0120-3916.  https://doi.org/10.17227/rce.num79-9618.

The access of students with disabilities to higher education Institutions In Colombia constitutes an important element that contributes to human development and to the improvement of the living conditions of people with this condition. In this sense, the objective of this article was to understand the conditions of access and permanence of students with disabilities at two universities in Bucaramanga, considering institutional policies, the training process and the experiences of students For this, an exploratory qualitative research was carried out, following the process of discovery, coding and relativization of the data. 33 interviews were conducted with the academic community of the two institutions. The absence of an institutional admissions policy for people with disabilities is evident, which in turn generates an invisibility of diversity. This situation makes people with disabilities face daily challenges for their displacement and in general for living within institutions. The results allow us to identify that there is a long way to go to consider these institutions as inclusive, since there are many factors that require strengthening, including educational policies, removal of architectural barriers, curricular adaptations, attitudinal barriers, among others.

Keywords : Disability discrimination; inclusive education; access to education; students with disabilities; academic adjustments.
