Academic plagiarism is a manifestation of Academic Dishonesty that has existed in educational institutions since ancient times. With the development of Information and Communication Technologies and Internet access, it has reached new characteristics and a worrying dimension. This communication focuses attention on its most aggravated manifestation, cyber plagiarism, an inadequate practice in the preparation of academic works that has taken root among the student body. The objective is to collect and analyze the academic literature on cyberplagiarism among university students, focusing attention on its prevalence, the most common practices in the development of academic work, factors and causes associated with its commission, and actions to address it. In addition, the main lines of research proposed by the authors for future studies are exposed. It is a descriptive study of the bibliographic review type, following its development in the following phases: search, evaluation, analysis, and synthesis (Codina, 2018). The document bank consists of 57 papers published in the period from 2017 to 2020 and indexed in the Web of Science and Google Scholar. The review indicates that the problem persists at the international level and that research has increased considerably using different methodologies, instruments, and techniques. As a result, an approximation of the current state of academic cyberplagiarism in higher education was achieved, demonstrating the relevance and timeliness of the problem. It will also be a reference point for the reflection of students and teaching staff.
