Abstract

DE LEON ARIAS, Adrián. ECONOMIC GROWTH IN MEXICO: THE DYNAMICS OF REGIONAL MANUFACTURING PRODUCTIVITY, 1970-2003. Ens. polit. econ. [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.spe58, pp.232-263. ISSN 0120-4483.

Although productivity growth in Mexico has been practically stagnant between the last two decades, some relevant structural changes have been observed within this economy. In this article, I present an analysis from a regional manufacturing perspective. In particular, I identify the dynamics of labor and total factor productivity in the Mexican manufacturing activities and selected regions for the period from 1970 to 2003. The results, which include estimates of the contribution of human capital, found evidence in favor of relevant structural changes in regional growth patterns that lead to a better explanation of Mexico's economic growth.

Keywords : Mexico; economic growth; regional economic development.
