The aim of this article was to analyze the perception of the neighboring community with respect to the actions of Universidad del Tolima, framed within the responsible campus hub of university social responsibility (USR). Within the context of descriptive research, a questionnaire was applied to 341 people from the neighboring community, which proposed 15 statements to respond to the level of agreement or disagreement with them; their results received descriptive analysis and factor analysis, which yielded two principal components. It was found that this community has a low perception with respect to the variables inquired because it is scored as partially in disagree, disagree, and totally disagree; depending on the variable, the consolidated of the three levels of disagreement presents frequencies ranging between 43% and 86%. It is concluded that Universidad del Tolima is quite far from conducting socially responsible management with the neighboring community, which places it in the second USR stage: university with social projection. The study recommends formulating the institutional policy and designing the procedures to start, as soon as possible, with activities aimed at understanding the requirements of this population and, consequently, undertake the necessary responses
