Abstract

GUZMAN, Danilo. EL ETHOS FILOSÓFICO. Prax. filos. [online]. 2007, n.24, pp.137-146. ISSN 0120-4688.

Our philosophical tradition has functioned as a myth of rationality and not as a development of rationality itself. This tradition exhibits all the characteristics typical of mythic - magical systems. Only a change in social conditions could permit the emergence of genuine rationality. Conversely, only the emergence of a genuine rationality could bring about the emergence of appropriate social conditions for rationality to thrive in. There cannot be a genuine philosophical development outside of appropriate social conditions. A sketch of this situation is here attempted.

Keywords : philosophy; ethos; magic; critical thinking.
