Abstract

It is celebrated the James definition of mystical experience from four characteristics: ineffability, noetic quality, transiency and passivity. Meanwhile contemporary phenomenology of mystic has pointed out the need to distinguish the mystical experiences of other experiences of transcendence, and for that authors like Juan Martín Velasco have rescued the relevance of a characteristics that James judged secondary, namely passivity. From this, it is possible to establish a dialogue between science and mysticism and achieve a naturalized definition of mystical experience that reveals the importance of both the mystical passivity and the techniques of achieve it, in order to considerer the mystical experience as a mystical way
