Abstract

CASTILLO MERLO, Mariana. Through the looking-glass, and what Plato found there. Mímesis between lógos and alétheia. Prax. filos. [online]. 2016, n.42, pp.33-58. ISSN 0120-4688.

Plato approached the concept of mimesis from complementary perspectives. In this paper I will focus on the structure and the content of the arguments against mimesis as they are exposed in books II, III and X of the Republic. In this sense, I propose to reorganize the arguments attending two main axes, lógos and alétheia. It would allow to emphasize the ethical and political elements that challenge the concept of mimesis. From this point of view, the role that art and tragedy have in the polis is redefined

Keywords : mímesis; lógos; alétheia; pólis; learning.
