Resumen

ARCELLA, Luciano. The sublime fascination of decadence. Oswald Spengler and Ernst Jünger between millenarianism and reactionary modernism. Prax. filos. [online]. 2017, n.44, pp.193-219. ISSN 0120-4688.

Spengler thinks that a cyclic system governs the history of human cultures, and therefore admits the consequent destruction of Western civilization, that will leave its abilities (technique) to other cultures, unable to make use of it. On the contrary, Jünger, as realizes that Modernity interrupts the regular course of events due to the incredible acceleration of its time, believes in a possible regeneration. However, both scholars agree about the very negative value of present civilization, that finds its real expression in modern metropolis, for its separation from natural roots. In any case, they feel an obligation or even the “privilege” to be fully involved in this reality and to live heroically their fate.
