Abstract
RODRIGUEZ, Angélica María and SANTAMARIA, Freddy. Searle: meaning and reference. Prax. filos. [online]. 2018, n.47, pp.25-45. ISSN 0120-4688. https://doi.org/10.25100/pfilosofica.v0i47.6597.
Name meaning was sustained in the theories of reference for a long time. Nevertheless, the analysis of the different existing speeches shows that the referencialists and descriptivists theories turn out to be insufficient at the time of guaranteeing the meaning, since the names, as linguistic entities, they do not work as labels that adhere to the world. With Searle, appears a path on a new theory of meaning, in which, the illocutionary speech acts are “reference “and there make possible the comprehensions of the statements that are dropped in the use of the language. The present article tries to show how, in Searle theory, the emission of speech acts is the one that allows reaching the meaning of speeches.
