Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, Teresa. Giovanni Pico’s Aristotelism and the Harmonization of Plato and Aristotle. Prax. filos. [online]. 2019, n.49, pp.39-60. ISSN 0120-4688.  https://doi.org/10.25100/pfilosofica.v0i49.7952.

This paper will argue that Pico della Mirandola's philosophical program of harmonization between Plato and Aristotle is a good tool to understand not only his relationship with the Platonic tradition but his Aristotelianism. For this purpose, (1) I present the recent scholarly approaches to the concord between Plato and Aristotle regarding Pico's works; (2) I analyze how Pico’s Aristotelianism can be studied from a receptional approach; (3) I present the program, starting with a brief historical account as the antecedent of Pico’s reception and its characteristics. I conclude that Pico's Aristotelianism can be described as an explicit attitude of positive evaluation and as the use of Aristotelian theses to defend his Concordia against the Platonists.

Keywords : concorde; Platonism; Aristotelism; Renaissance; Harmonization.
