Abstract

DOMINGUEZ DI VINCENZO, Esteban. The Young Marx and Freedom. About Debates on Freedom of the Press. Prax. filos. [online]. 2023, n.57, e20512542.  Epub July 28, 2023. ISSN 0120-4688.  https://doi.org/10.25100/pfilosofica.v0i57.12542.

The purpose of this paper is to approach the problem of freedom in Karl Marx by mean of a reading of “Debates on Freedom of the Press and Publication of the Proceedings of the Assembly of the Estates”, published in the Rheinische Zeitung in the spring of 1842. Firstly, I will describe the intellectual context in which this article takes place, pointing out the enlightened heritage of the young Marx. Secondly, I will reconstruct Marx’s position on freedom of press. Finally, I will suggest two folds in Marx’s speech which allows a continuity of the enquiry on freedom along his work.

Keywords : Freedom; Freedom of the press; Enlightenment, Struggle; Freedoms.
