Abstract

BUGANZA, Jacob. The Italic Difference between δόξα and ἐπιστήμη in Buroni's Philosophy. Prax. filos. [online]. 2023, n.57, e20712906.  Epub Dec 30, 2023. ISSN 0120-4688.  https://doi.org/10.25100/pfilosofica.v0i57.12906.

In this work, the author seeks to critically describe how the philosopher Giuseppe Buroni understands the concept of Italic philosophy, which in those years had already been cultivated by authors such as Mamiani and, above all, by Rosmini. The mark of Italic philosophy is reflected above all in the distinction between the intelligible and sensible spheres, which must be kept separate, even if they eventually intersect. According to Buroni, this position can be traced at least already in Parmenides, but it appears rigorously above all in the philosophy of Plato, to whom this article is dedicated. One way of approaching this distinction of ontological planes turns out to be the gnoseological distinction between opinion (δόξα) and science (ἐπιστήμη). It should be finally noted that the bibliography on Buroni in more recent times is very scarce, and this is surely because the fact that his philosophical works have not been republished since their original publication in the 19th century. Currently, however, I and Samuele F. Tadini are working on a critical edition in Italian and Spanish of the most important work of this philosopher: Dell'essere e del conoscere. This circumstance explains why the bibliography of this article is not abundant.
