The article is trying to show the possibility of tackling what we have called the experience of violence in Colombia as a key point for citizen formation. First, it is shown that the phenomenon of violence in Colombia appears to be omnipresent and uninterrupted; that is why we should read it from a historical point of view, which would allow the Colombians to configure what we have called the experience of violence. Second, an approximation to the implications of citizen formation will be made through a critical pedagogical point of view, with the aim of finding meeting points in which lie possibilities of understanding the experience of violence in Colombia, starting from recognition. From our part as historical subjects, the first condition in order to form citizens, understood as the commitment with the possibility of transformation, is an appropriate exercise of critical thinking.
