Abstract

CUCHUMBE-HOLGUIN, Nelson Jair  and  VARGAS-BEJARANO, Julio Cesar. Reflections About the Sentiment and Genesis of Forced Displacement in Colombia. univ.humanist. [online]. 2008, n.65, pp.173-196. ISSN 0120-4807.

The main thesis we defend in this article is that the traumatic experience of displacement in Colombia leads displaced people to act within a socio-cultural structure that degrades their identity and compels them to use hiding, obscurity, silence, and diversion as major strategies to face their new status. To support our thesis, four major aspects of the problem are covered in this article. The first topic deals with some key elements related to the history of making forced displacement visible within the Colombian context. In the second topic, the authors take a close look at the key features of displacement itself. The third element refers to the way the sense of forced displacement has changed ultimately. Finally, we come to our major conclusion and state some general conditions which may be taken as general guidelines to reconciliation, forgiveness and hope.

Keywords : Displacement; traumatic experience; public space; reconciliation; hope; forced migration; Colombia.
