Abstract

MORAES, Mareia  and  JACQUES ARENDT, Ronald João. Guide and Be Guided: or from What Our (Dis) Ability is Made?. univ.humanist. [online]. 2013, n.76, pp.327-347. ISSN 0120-4807.

The article aims to problematize the boundaries between ability and disability, specifically in the field of rehabilitation of blind people. It analyzes theoretical and practical tools in the field of social studies of science and technology (SST) to indicate that in practice the boundaries between ability and disability are mobile, fluid and cover the most diverse elements. In this sense, the work concludes that the STS studies open new alternatives in disability studies, putting in question the discourse of standardization and investing in the multiplicity of modes of ordering ability and disability.

Keywords : Visual Impairment; Rehabilitation; SST Studies; People with disabilities; Technological innovations; Blind rehabilitation.
