Abstract

RUEDA ORTIZ, ROCIO. Technological Convergence: Synthesis or Political and Cultural Multiplicity. Signo pensam. [online]. 2009, vol.28, n.54, pp.114-130. ISSN 0120-4823.

This article critically examines the current tendency of technological convergence from a communicative, cultural, and political point of view, a field whereby, nowadays, the relationship between technology and society take place. In fact, it argues on behalf of the importance of understanding the processes of technological convergence within the context -and complex interactions- of cognitive, cultural, and political transformations taking place in our societies. Herein we explore a manifest return to subjectivity as well as the agency of social actors when facing the crisis of traditional institutions and, consequently, the power but also the threats involved in a double process of cultural and technological convergence in current societies.

Keywords : Technological convergence; digital convergence; politics; culture; information technologies; communication.
