Abstract

SISTO, VICENTE. New professionalism and teachers: a reflection from the analysis of current policies of 'professionalism' for education in Chile. Signo pensam. [online]. 2011, vol.30, n.59, pp.178-192. ISSN 0120-4823.

This article discusses the changes to the teaching profession in the context of the new models of professionalism that prevail in the public arena in Chile. As it is developed, models of professionalism made, particularly from the private field, facing the meanings with which it has been historically built the teaching profession. This is illustrated with some data from qualitative research with 60 teachers in the context of the implementation of a policy of performance evaluation and incentives in Chile. These shows how new models of professionalism can radically challenge the references that guide the actual performance of teachers.
