Abstract

GARCIA CORREDOR, CLAUDIA PILAR  and  RODRIGUEZ BOHORQUEZ, LUIS FERNANDO. Sobre profesiones, prácticas y oficios de la comunicaciónOn Professions, Practices and Occupations of Communication Studies. Signo pensam. [online]. 2011, vol.30, n.59, pp.298-306. ISSN 0120-4823.

The field of professions and occupations of communication studies is a structuring topic. It concerns the reflection on the critical field of the discipline, and its ethical perspective as a training process. Studying its interdisciplinary relations and exploring its methodological possibilities to adapt its analysis to the social sciences demands, is an epistemological adventure, which opens new roads to shape itself as an object of study and knowledge producer. The emphasis of this text is on the field's dialogical and relational view as a strategy to produce sense, imaginaries, and analysis. It presents a brief sketch that reopens a necessary debate for the academia and its job as social practices regulator in many communities and in many ordinary life scenarios. The relation between communication studies and world-culture, as one of the many conceptual clues to analyze the influx of globalization, is an illuminating academic purpose to critically produce the development of the professionals of the communication field as well as to reveal their occupations and their practices in the labor scene.

Keywords : communication studies professions; sense production; social practices; labor scenarios; training; Sociology of communication; Information professionals.
