This article analyzes in a critical way a set of discourses where the concept of cultural diversity has been positively valued. The aim is to understand the forms these discourses take, the logics supporting them as well as their relationship to some practices and, particularly, to the sociocultural means. The methodology used herein consisted in a deep open interview, complemented with ethnographic observations. A conclusion is drawn that the cultural diversity valuation, notwithstanding is commonly deemed as an expression of opening and tolerance regarding the differences, may become a restrictive and exclusive way of social classification, which is linked to consumption logics, ideas of personal drive and some individualized sense-making attempts.
