BRANDAO DE CARVALHO LIRAX, Ana Luisa; CAVALCANTE GUEDES, Maria Vilaní  and  VENICIOS DE OLIVEIRA LOPES, Marcos. Psicosocial adaptation of post-renal transplanted adolescents according to Roy Theory. Invest. educ. enferm [online]. 2005, vol.23, n.1, pp.68-77. ISSN 0120-5307.

The objective of this work was to know the adolescent’s psychosocial repercussions after the renal trasplant and the mechanisms adaptive y these in their new life condition. They interviewed nineteen teens that were in attendance in two public hospitals of Ceará - Brazil, after approval of the project for the Committee of Ethics of the Institutions and obtaining of the free and explained consent. The results were analyzed according to the Roy Adaptation Model. They were identified adaptation problems, as: physical limitation, shame, fear of rejection and impotence. However, those adolescents could overcome such situation and to improve the adaptation to their new condition. We concluded that Roy Adaptation Model allowed a deepened analysis of those adolescents, allowing them a more effective treatment and, consequently, a better quality of life.
