Abstract

The current essay suggests a critical reflection about the categories "successful aging" and "third age" trough an analysis of its postulates, especially which concerning the reinforcement of a healthy aging process as a result of a simple personal option. This way, the intention is to discuss the actions and discourses of health promotion related to the elderly population and to the aging process, emphasizing the need to politicize the debate on these issues. The article accentuates as fundamental the consideration of the different ways to live the aging process on the moment of establishing strategies of promoting good health to those who are getting old.
