Abstract

VASQUEZ T, Marta Lucia. The value of care from the cultural perspective. Invest. educ. enferm [online]. 2006, vol.24, n.2, pp.136-142. ISSN 0120-5307.

Care as a subjective valuation owes its existence, sense and validity to the reactions of the person who evaluates it. Accordingly that valuation is real because it happens in the real world and it is not a fantasy of the subject. Care does not exist by self, floating in the air since it has to exist parasitically in a depositary. Thus we say that it is inherent to human life. As a value care is perceived by both the caregiver and the care receiver. To provide care is regarding the cultural ethos of the patient leads first to ignore the human being as product and as producer of culture and secondly to abolish the relation and character of care that makes its valuation possible

Keywords : care; culture; transcultural nursing.
