ESPINAL RESTREPO, Juliana. METAPHYSICS AND ETHICS IN PLOTINUS. REFLECTIONS ON A DIVERGENCE. Univ. philos. [online]. 2011, vol.28, n.56, pp.85-107. ISSN 0120-5323.

Plotinus' thought is still hidden from us. The complexity of his ideas increases the abyss that separates us from understanding their texts. Yes, indeed, in Plotinus we can find the first great philosophical system, which ensures the ordered visibility of all items that are in his thought, but it is right there where the darkness of these elements is revealed. This system is constituted by two kinds of orders -metaphysical and ethical- acting as two sides of the same coin. How to draw the line between these two worlds? Is that even possible? In this article I try to resolve these issues by examining the concepts of contemplation (theôría) and ecstasy.

Palavras-chave : Plotinus; metaphysics; ethics; contemplation; ecstasy.
