PETENELLO, MARÍA CRISTINA  e  FELDMAN, SUSANA RAQUEL. Evaluation of Tolerance to Soils Contaminated with Diesel Oil in Plant Species with Bioremediation Potential. Acta biol.Colomb. [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.3, pp.589-598. ISSN 0120-548X.

Soils contaminated with hydrocarbons or their derivates can be remediated by different methods. Many of them use live organisms such as plants that are able to mineralize these compounds, turning them into more simple molecules, similar to natural molecules. When the use of plants is decided, it is important to employ native plants because they are already adapted to the particular ecological conditions of the site. The response of Spartina argentinensis, Paspalum atratum, Paspalum guenoarun and Melilotus albus to the presence of diesel oil was evaluated considering seed germination, plant emergence and biomass production of plants growing on soils experimentally contaminated with different concentrations of diesel oil (1 and 2 %). Although all the parameters evaluated showed the negative impact of the presence of diesel-oil, the plants continued growing; therefore they can be considered useful management options for soil phytoremediation.
