Abstract

This essay concerns the main characteristics of the Ackee tree and the nutritional and medicinal properties of its fruit. The Ackee has been used as an antiparasitic, and has also been used to attack dysentery, ophthalmic conjunctivitis and headaches. Due to its important nutritional and medicinal value, the Ackee is part of the consumer basket of Jamaica, a Caribbean country with growing conditions similar to those existing in the Colombian Caribbean. The Ackee tree could be grown in the Colombian Caribbean with the main purpose of improving the state of malnutrition of its inhabitants.
