CORTES FUENTES, Leidy; ALVIS ESTRADA, Luis  y  ALVIS GUZMAN, Nelson. Cardiovascular disease mortality and its economic impact in Colombia, 2000-2010. Salud, Barranquilla [online]. 2016, vol.32, n.2, pp.208-217. ISSN 0120-5552.

Abstract Objective: Establish the economic impact of mortality associated with cardiovascular disease in Colombia during the period 2000 - 2010. Materials and methods: A mixed ecological study was conducted. Population projections and records no fetal deaths in Colombia officially published by the National Bureau of Statistics were used. Of oficial records the value of the minimum monthly legal wage in pesos (SMMLV) extracted to determine the amount of income or minimum annual consumption, which were converted to dollars and indexed to year 2010 then multiplied the total YPLL each annual period for the minimum income obtained previously. The sum of annual dollar flows was performed to determine the total value of the cost of years of life lost in the study period and that cost is contrasted with the national Gross Domestic Product-GDP at constant 2010 prices converted to dollars. Data were analyzed in Excel and EPIDAT. Results: In Colombia lost about 2,785,529 potential years of life equivalent to USD 7 billion, representing about 4 % of GDP during the same period obtained. Conclusions: The Lost Years of Potential Life related deaths whose causes were decreased Cardiovascular Disease and they accounted for only 7 % of the total years lost associated with all-cause no fetal deaths.
