AVALOS GARCIA, MARÍA ISABEL et al. Quality of care in chronic kidney disease from the perspective of the family doctor. A qualitative study. Salud, Barranquilla [online]. 2023, vol.39, n.2, pp.498-514.  Epub 20-Mar-2024. ISSN 0120-5552.  https://doi.org/10.14482/sun.39.02.519.328.

Background:

The vision of the family doctor in the quality of care for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is fundamental. The identification of strengths and critical points will allow the development of improvements in favor of patients.

Objective:

To explore the quality perspectives of the family doctor in the care of patients with chronic kidney disease in a first level unit in Tabasco, Mexico.

Materials and methods:

Qualitative research under the interpretive approach carried out in two focus groups (12 doctors in direct care of patients with CKD), as a methodological framework the Avedis Donabedian Model was used: Structure, Process, Results, for the analysis of the data the software was used. MAXQDA version 2020.

Results:

Family doctors identified a lack of material, equipment for care and essential medicines for patients, inaccessibility to laboratory tests, insufficient human resources, lack of evaluation and supervision, disassociation with the second level, non-adherence to treatment, low patient co-responsibility and no family support.

Conclusion:

Studying the perspectives of family doctors made it possible to identify deviations that, if addressed in an integral manner, become priority areas of opportunity for the continuous improvement of the quality of health services.
