Materials and methods:
A review of the literature in indexed databases (EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane, CINAHL, CDSR, DARE, PSYINFO, Central, Clinical Trials and Medline-Ovid) was performed with MeSH type descriptors from 2000 to 2019; 698 articles were found, of which 62 were selected.
Results:
The risk factors for childhood overweight and obesity are nutritional status of the mother, consumption of coffee, cigarette, metabolic profile and diet in pregnancy, caesarean section, birth weight ≥ 3.86 kg, milk formula, breastfeeding <12 months, environmental contamination, use of sex hormones and antibiotics and sleep cycle in children <12 hours.
