Abstract

SALAMANCA GUTIERREZ, Gastón Felipe  and  VALENZUELA HIDALGO, Alejandro Andrés. ARGENTINISMS IN THE CHILEAN SPANISH LEXICON: RESULTS OF A FIELD WORK CONDUCTED WITH 23 INDIVIDUALS FROM CONCEPCIÓN AND 23 INDIVIDUALS FROM BUENOS AIRES. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2013, n.63, pp.235-253. ISSN 0120-5587.

This article shows the results of a fieldwork conducted with 23 individuals from Concepción and 23 from Buenos Aires. The possibility that seven expressions in the Chilean Spanish lexicon could be considered as Argentinisms is explored. A survey was used to ask the individuals about the meaning they give to the expressions, the place where they estimate the expressions had their origin, and the estimated dates of appearence in their respective countries. The results aim to the expected direction. There is a significant coincidence in the meaning the subjects of both cities give to the expressions, most of which are assigned to Argentina. The date for the beginning of usage of the terms proposed by the subjects, with some nuances, is systematically previous in Argentina.

Keywords : Sociolinguistics; Chilean Spanish; Argentinisms.
