Abstract

This article analyzes the historical processes of extinction and survival of toponymy and anthroponymy of Guane language since the arrival of the conquistadors until the present time in the present territory of the department of Santander. This also implies the study of the replacement of some of these native names by Spanish names, and the presence of syncretic forms, all of them framed within a broader process of cultural mixing experienced in this area of Northeastern Colombia.
