Abstract

This study proposes to establish a critical reading of some of the theories known as cultural studies. In the first place, it argues their hegemonic character in the current academic context of Latin America and, next, it polemicizes about their rejection of the literary criticism and their traditional emphasis in the aesthetic value. The argumentation is headed to a resemantization of the history of the literature, the paper of the aesthetics and the recovery of the tradition of the literary studies in the continent, along with comparative readings concepts such as subaltern studies, post-Marxism, the psychoanalysis and criticism and literary Latin American theories.
