Abstract

This pragmatics based study is a first approach to the analysis of rude dysphemistic intensifiers in the colloquial language used in the Antioquia culture by authors born in the city of Medellin. This paper is divided into three parts: first, the theoretical frame is presented: it includes intensification, dysphemism, verbal (im)politeness as important issues in the colloquial conversation; second, based on literary texts that belong to the corpus of the Diccionario descriptivo del español del Valle de Aburrá (DEVA) it aims at describing the discursive functions of dysphemisms in the use of characters, speech act, and the modality type of statement that represent, as well as the linguistics mechanisms that are involved.
