Abstract

UGUETO C, Marluis M. THE VARIANT /ɾ/ AT THE END OF A WORD IN CARACAS SPEECH: A SOCIOPHONETIC STUDY. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2016, n.70, pp.15-46. ISSN 0120-5587.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.lyl.n70a01.

This research analyzes the variant /ɾ/ at the end of a word in Caracas Spanish. This research studied a sample selected from a corpus entitled PRESEEA, Caracas 2004-2011. The study analyzed Variants [ɾ], [ɹ] and others ([h] y [r]) of /ɾ/, and determined the distinction of these variants, using perceptual and acoustic analyses. Researchers used a Goldvarb X program to conduct the statistical analysis. The results show that the most frequent variant of /ɾ/ in Caracas is the simple vibrating [ɾ], followed by the elision ø, the approximant [ɹ] and the group «other» ([h] y [r]); and that both linguistic and social variables interact in the elision of /ɾ/
