Abstract

MARIN COLORADO, Paula Andrea. JAIME ARDILA CASAMITJANA: THE «SIMULATION» STRATEGY. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2016, n.70, pp.135-156. ISSN 0120-5587.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.lyl.n70a06.

Jaime Ardila is recognized in Colombian cultural life because he was the founder of El Espacio, a very popular tabloid in the country. Before that, Ardila published two novels, founded a literary magazine and collaborated with several periodic publications. This paper will focus on the first period of Ardila’s intellectual career and the analysis of his first novel, Babel (1944). The study of the mechanisms of literary legitimacy valid in the Colombian intellectual field of the first half of the 20th century allows researchers to understand his aesthetic and ideological contradictions, and how Ardila attempted to conciliate them to get his peers’ appreciation.

Keywords : 20th century Colombian intellectual field; Colombian novel; Jaime ArdilaCasamitjana; Babel; classical Colombian humanism; modernism..
