Abstract

CISNEROS ESTUPINAN, Mireya; OLAVE ARIAS, Giohanny  and  SERNA PINTO, María Alicia. A LEXICOMETRICAL STUDY OF THE APPLICANTS’ WRITINGS FOR A POSTGRADUATE DEGREE IN LINGUISTICS. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2020, n.77, pp.33-53.  Epub Oct 21, 2021. ISSN 0120-5587.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.lyl.n77a02.

An approximation to the lexical dimension of the texts written by candidates for the Master’s Degree in Linguistics at the Technological University of Pereira will be presented. Aspects of lexical availability were articulated with studies on academic discursive genres and disciplinary communities. The corpus consisted of 81 texts presented as a requirement for admission during the years 2014-2015, analyzed under five defined indicators for the delimitation of the academic lexicon. The obtained results indicated a low proximity between the meanings associated with the lexical worlds, so it is suggested to link the representations about language and discourse with education.

Keywords : academic lexicon; technolect; lexicometry; postgraduate writing; disciplinary community.
