Abstract: Synonymy abounds in Colombian Spanish. Lexicography offers different possibilities for analyzing this linguistic phenomenon, but this approach has always been a controversial issue. Such controversy justifies the current study, which analyzes synonyms and pragmatic marks in three dictionaries of Colombian Spanish. From the data, the need for a narrower and more systematic strategy for dealing with pragmatic marks of synonyms emerges. The study concludes that pragmatic marking could provide more complete information about the use of each term and a better lexicographical representation of the synonymy in dialect dictionaries.
