TRILLOS AMAYA, María. LINGUISTIC RIGHTS IN COLOMBIA: PROGRESS AND CHALLENGES. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2020, n.77, pp.173-202.  Epub 26-Out-2021. ISSN 0120-5587.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.lyl.n77a08.

According to article 10 of the Constitution, Spanish is the official language in Colombia and native languages are co-official in their ancestral territories. This diglossic situation fosters a paradox in linguistic representations: while native languages were declared co-official for their significance, Spanish is promoted as the official language of communication in mainstream society and among the various indigenous peoples. This article reflects a review of documentary and empirical data. It also highlights the progress and challenges in the defense of the linguistic rights of the original peoples and the full use of their languages.

Palavras-chave : linguistic rights; official language; co-official languages; nation-state; multicultural state.
