Abstract

ESTRADA FLOREZ, Rosa Elvira  and  PEREZ ADARRAGA, José Manuel. SOME BELIEFS AND PERCEPTIONS OF THE INHABITANTS OF VALLEDUPAR ABOUT THE TERM VALLENATO USED AS A DEMONYM. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2020, n.78, pp.109-138.  Epub Nov 10, 2021. ISSN 0120-5587.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.lyl.n78a05.

This research analyzed the perceptions of the natives of Valledupar towards the term vallenato used as demonym. To this end, an attempt was made to determine how the perceptions of speakers shape their linguistic attitudes, as well as the social variables that influence the attitudes of the speaking community. The selection of the sample was based on the parameters of PRESEEA (2003). The results indicate that the main belief of the speakers about the term vallenato is related to the folkloric and musical aspect characteristic of the city of Valledupar, (Colombia).

Keywords : beliefs; demonym; perceptions; vallenato.
