Abstract
SALINAS MARCHANT, Carolina Lisette and SALAMANCA GUTIERREZ, Gastón Felipe. PROMINENT PHONOLOGICAL PROCESSES IN THE CHEDUNGUN SPOKEN IN ALTO BÍO-BÍO. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2022, n.81, pp.13-31. Epub Feb 15, 2023. ISSN 0120-5587. https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.lyl.n81a01.
This study offers a characterization of some of the most prominent phonological processes attested in the Chedungun dialect of the Mapuche language, spoken in Alto Bío-Bío. The participants (44) were all native speakers from ten localities in Alto Bío-Bío, chosen on account of their proficiency in Mapuche. Data collection was conducted via recordings of lexical lists, after which neo-distributionalist phonetic and phonological analyses were completed. Results showed that this variant of Mapudungun displays high percentages of de-interdentalization, low percentages of voicing and almost no phonological processes of vocalic decentralization.
