Abstract

MEJIA UMANA, Antonio José  and  RIVEROS ROJAS, Marcelo Enrique. From local cartography to international engineering networks. Ing. Investig. [online]. 2011, vol.31, suppl.1, pp.5-15. ISSN 0120-5609.

This document gives an overview of the 150 yearold history of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia's School of Engineering in Bogotá; this is preceded by a short introduction concerning the institution's origin. Brief reference is made to the first two stages of the School's development and then a more detailed description is given about the Engineering Faculty's boom years (1910-1935), highlighting specific aspects of its growth during this particular stage of development. The period when the centuryold institution became modernised (1935-1970) is then shown. A description is given of how the school began research into cuttingedge technological topics (1970 to 2011) and how it has ventured onto the international scene and continues to do so.
