Abstract
SALDARRIAGA, Clara et al. Prognosis after the implantation of coronary stents from a gender perspectiv. Rev. Colomb. Cardiol. [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.3, pp.135-139. ISSN 0120-5633.
Introduction: To identify the existence of different outcomes by gender in order to define the best revascularization strategy used in coronary artery disease: conventional stents vs. medicated stents, is a priority. Objective: To determine whether there are differences in gender in terms of mortality, re-infarction, revascularization rate of the lesion or vessel treated at the first, sixth and twelfth month after coronary stent implantation. Methods: an observational, analytical, retrospective cohort study type. Results: 2,500 patients, 41% female, mean age 66 years, were included. Use of conventional stents was 57.8% in women and 55% in men, with no differences by gender. Women had more comorbidities (hypertension and diabetes). A higher incidence of infarction at 30 days was observed in women with bare stents. However, clinical outcomes for men and women with medicated stents, were similar. The subgroup of diabetic women showed similar behavior as that of men. Conclusion: Revascularization with conventional stents increases reinfarction at thirty days in women; however, this difference is not significant at one year follow-up or in the female patients after medicated stent implantation.
