Abstract

CHARRIA, José G; GIRALDO, Sebastián  and  MARTINEZ, Natalia. Cardiac tamponade as an explanation for thrombolytic therapy in patient with massive pulmonary embolism. Rev. Colomb. Cardiol. [online]. 2015, vol.22, n.4, pp.197-200. ISSN 0120-5633.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rccar.2015.04.003.

Fundamentals: Pulmonary embolism is a frequent condition which generates alterations in the cardiovascular and pulmonary dynamics. Today it is classified according to its hemodynamic impact, which allows the adoption of interventions for restoring of cardiac, hemodynamic and pulmonary function, such as thrombolysis. Methods: Case report. Results: In the present case, a case of a patient with massive pulmonary embolism is reported. This patient developed a bleeding complication associated to thrombolysis, cardiac tamponade and eventually died. Conclusions: Intervention measures to treat pulmonary embolism, such as thrombolysis, can present complications.

Keywords : Pulmonary thromboembolism; Thrombolysis; Cardiac tamponade.
