Abstract

BARRERA-LOPEZ, Ana Madeleine; CORTES-P., Luis Arcadio  and  SALAZAR-C., Erika María. Pulmonary thromboembolism associated to superior vena cava syndrome thrombotic origin. Rev. Colomb. Cardiol. [online]. 2017, vol.24, n.4, pp.406-406. ISSN 0120-5633.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rccar.2016.08.003.

The case of a 32-year old male patient who consulted the ER with a clinical record of superior vena cava syndrome is described. CT pulmonary angiography study reveals left pulmonary embolism, thrombosis in right-sided internal jugular vein and subclavian-jugular confluence. There is no evidence of association with neoplasms, infec tions or connective tissue disease, hyperviscosity (Virchow’s triad) due to polyglobulia being the only risk associated to thrombosis.

Keywords : Pulmonary thromboembolism; Superior vena cava syndrome; Superior vena cava thrombosis; Polyglobulia or erythrocytosis.
