Abstract

CORDERO, Luis et al. Use of echocardiography in the detection of heart failure in a young adult with anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery syndrome andparachute-like asymmetric mitral valve. Rev. Colomb. Cardiol. [online]. 2018, vol.25, n.2, pp.151-151. ISSN 0120-5633.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rccar.2017.04.007.

Objective:

To describe a case of a young adult with heart failure, secondary to two rare cardiac malformations, anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) syndrome and parachute-like asymmetric mitral valve, highlighting the use of echocardiography.

Material and methods:

A case is analysed along with a search in the medical literature.

Conclusions:

The anomalous origin of left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery and parachute-like asymmetric mitral valve are rare malformations associated with severe mitral insufficiency and heart failure. No reports were found in the literature as regards the existence of these two diseases in a patient.

Keywords : Heart failure; Mitral insufficiency; Left coronary artery; Congenital heartdisease.
