Internet traffic demands are constantly increasing and a considerable amount is expected to be of multicast type with Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Optical Transport Networks (RTO) must be prepared in terms of better resource utilization, for accommodating unicast and multicast traffic together. S/G Light-tree allows grooming unicast and multicast traffic together in a light-tree, hence reducing bandwidth wastage. S/G Light-tree allows a node to optically drop part of the multiplexed traffic in a wavelength without incurring on OEO conversions. The algorithms for grooming, assignment and routing of wavelengths proposed so far, do not take into account the phenomena which may be provided in the optical fiber, which mitigate or alter the different wavelengths in the WDM networks. Chromatic dispersión is a major limiting factor in ultrahigh-speed optical transmission and may occur in all types of optical fibers. It originates from the finite spectral width of the optical source and causes broadening of each transmitted mode. In this paper, we propose a predictive model of allocation of wavelengths, which takes into account the residual dispersion in WDM networks that carry traffic grooming and traffic unicast/multicast with QoS requirements.
