Abstract

MACIA, Andrés Felipe; PARRA, Jhon Camilo  and  CHEJNE, Farid. Analysis of a system of storage heat thermal using magnesium chloride hexahydrate. Rev.fac.ing.univ. Antioquia [online]. 2010, n.51, pp.34-43. ISSN 0120-6230.

It was analyzed the behavior of hexahydrate magnesium chloride (MgCl2*6H2O) as a thermal energy storage, which has a phase transition temperature of 117oC and is becoming a material with great potential in the application of medium temperature (industrial applications). It was developed a simulation using the CFD software FLUENT to describe the melting/solidification of the hydrated salt. It was observed the effect of the use of fins and buoyant forces produced by gravitational effects.

Keywords : Storage Energy; phase change materials (PCM); Fluent; salts hydrates.
