GOMEZ BOTERO, Maryory Astrid; LOUSA, Arturo  e  PUJO, Joan Esteve. Effect of the C2H2 pressure on the tribological and mechanical properties of CrC coatings deposited by cathodic arc evaporation (CAE). Rev.fac.ing.univ. Antioquia [online]. 2010, n.54, pp.84-90. ISSN 0120-6230.

CrC single layer coatings were obtained by cathodic arc evaporation (CAE). In this paper, we evaluated the tribological properties of the coatings by means of dry sliding tests using a ball-on-disk tribometer. The mechanical properties were studied by dynamical nanoindentation. Friction coefficient values of CrC single layer coatings have showed good correlation with the carbon content of these coatings, presenting the lowest friction coefficient the coating with highest carbon content. After the friction tests, the coatings and the steel balls used as counterparts exhibit debris of a brown colour that suggest the presence of products of tribochemistry reactions. The best mechanical properties were obtained for the CrC coatings with the lowest carbon content.

Palavras-chave : Chromium carbide; tribological properties; mechanical properties; cathodic arc evaporation.
