Abstract

WAINER, Andrés. THE EXTERNAL RESTRICTION ON GROWTH IN ARGENTINA IN THE KIRCHNERIST PERIOD (2003-2015). Semest. Econ. [online]. 2018, vol.21, n.47, pp.95-122. ISSN 0120-6346.  https://doi.org/10.22395/seec.v21n47a4.

The so-called external restriction on growth has been a historic obstacle to the economic development of Latin American countries. This article aims to contribute to the debate on this issue in Argentina, from an approach of political economics. In this context, it is stated in this paper that the lower dynamism exhibited by the Argentinian economy between 2009 and 2015, compared to the previous five years, was linked to growing difficulties in its external sector. From the descriptive analysis of several variables related to the balance of payments, it is affirmed that this was due to the confluence of an external situation -the international crisis- with unresolved structural problems whose persistence refers to the character of the dominant class block.
